Waves of more than a million residents cheer for UniTeam in Caloocan

20 February 2022

SHOWING glimpses of what it can do as it strives and works to unite the whole country, the BBM-Sara UniTeam on Saturday succeeded in uniting South and North Caloocan, where over a million supporters went out of their homes to attend the ticket’s campaign rally or to stand along the roadsides to wait for its caravan to pass by.

To show the city’s support for the UniTeam, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan and his son, Congressman Dale “Along,” organized a caravan and rally, where Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. and his running-mate Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte spoke about their vision for the country.

The people of Caloocan affirmed the Malapitans’ commitment of support for the UniTeam, with more than a million residents patiently stood and waited by the roadside until the caravan passed by, cheering “BBM” and “Sara.”

They also made sure their cellular phones were ready to take photos or videos the moment the caravan came in sight so they could post them on their different social media accounts or keep them as souvenirs of the event.

Many residents even made the photos they have taken during the event their profile picture on Facebook.

People everywhere in Caloocan went into a frenzy whenever they saw the UniTeam.

Marcos and the Malapitans led the caravan going around South Caloocan, taking off in front of the Toyota showroom along Balintawak at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The caravan went along Gen. Malvar, Tirad Pass, Gen. Tirona, West Service Road (North Diversion Road), Malolos Avenue, Zapote, Gen. Tinio, Edsa, Monumento, Samson Road, Sangandaan, A. Mabini, 10TH Avenue, and 8th Avenue in South Caloocan before Marcos and the team took a break for lunch in front of the main city hall.

After lunch, the caravan headed towards the Caloocan Sports Complex in North Caloocan to regroup for another round, this time in North Caloocan and with Sara Duterte joining the caravan.

Some of the UniTeam’s senatorial bets like Gibo Teodoro and guest Robin Padilla joined the afternoon caravan.

The caravan took a long-time touring around Caloocan as the cars could only move slowly as thousands of people waited along the streets to see the UniTeam.

In North Caloocan, the caravan traversed Malapitan Rd. (Saranay), Congressional Rd., Vicas, Camarin Rd., Almar, Camarin Rd., Zapote, Durian St., Sampaloc St., Kiko, Ilang-Ilang St., Capt. Somano Rd, Barugo Rd., Phase 1 Bagong Silang, Langit Rd., Tala Hospital, SVF Ave., St. Joseph Barracks Rd., and Mallaria Rd.

While the caravan has yet to arrive at the venue for the rally, almost a hundred thousand supporters were already patiently waiting at a venue to attend the culminating event, while waves of thousands more continued to troop without let-up to the place.

A cashier at a nearby mall said hordes of people were already lining up for entry hours before the venue, a fenced vacant property where a subdivision is set to rise, was opened.

Lalo pang dadami ‘yan mamaya pagdating nina BBM,” a marshall posted at the entrance, meanwhile, said.

The scores of thousands of supporters patiently waited at the venue, even though the rally would still start hours later contrary to the original plan, because the caravan took seven hours. Actual program on the stage started at 8 p.m.

When the UniTeam caravan arrived at past 7 p.m., the excitement of the supporters was at high pitch.

Even the customers and crew of the restaurants and the other shops inside the nearby mall hurriedly went out and lined up along the streets at first sight of the approaching caravan.

The crowd started shouting: “BBM, Sara!”

“Nakakatuwang makita si Bongbong at Sara na talagang sinasalubong ng mga tao at dinudumog at feeling ko talaga destiny niya ang maging pangulo ng bansa,” one of the residents said.

Both Marcos and Duterte thanked the city for the warm welcome and support before talking about their message of unity for Filipinos and enjoining the multitude to work with them to make the country greater and make Filipinos proud as a race.
