VICE presidential candidate Sara Duterte-Carpio hopes to get the endorsement of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, for Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in the May elections.

Speaking to reporters in Bulacan on Thursday, Duterte-Carpio said she hopes to get her father's backing for her partner in the UniTeam, but she will also respect his decision if he refuses.

"Well yes, of course, 'yan ang gusto naming lahat na makita, 'yung suporta ni Pangulong Duterte para sa UniTeam (That is what we all want to see, President Duterte's support for UniTeam)," Duterte-Carpio said.

The Davao City mayor said she has not spoken with her father recently, but they are expected to meet during upcoming family occasions.

She said there are birthdays in the family in March and April, so she could talk with the President during those events.

The President will celebrate his 77th birthday on March 28.

Duterte-Carpio, chairman of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party, has been on the campaign trail with Marcos, the standard-bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

The President has said he will not support any presidential candidate unless he finds "a compelling reason" to do so.

He revealed that almost all of the presidential candidates had asked for his support "in one way or the other."

In November, Duterte called Marcos "a weak leader" and ruled out a coalition with his daughter's Lakas-CMD.

Duterte and the administration party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) have yet to endorse a presidential candidate. The PDP-Laban has no standard-bearer and has adopted Duterte-Carpio as its vice presidential candidate.

On Tuesday, the PDP-Laban wing led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said it would throw its support to the presidential candidate who will continue Duterte's legacy programs.

"Being a major institution that adapts and responds to the challenges of the rapidly changing times, PDP-Laban has decided to endorse the presidential candidate who vows to continue the President's reform agenda," Cusi said.
