THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has approved the proposal of the Department of Education (DepEd) to give higher compensation to teaching and non-teaching personnel who will serve for the 2022 national and local elections.

Those who will serve as Election Board (EB) Chairman will receive ₱9,000, EB members will receive ₱8,000, and DepEd Supervisor Officials (DESO) will receive ₱7,000. Meanwhile, support staff will receive ₱5,000.

This is a ₱3,000 increase in honoraria compared with the 2019 elections.

"We want to express our gratitude to the Comelec for approving our request for higher compensation for our teachers [who] will render their services in the next year's election. Given the current health situation, it is rightful for them to receive additional allowance," said Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

DepEd also said that Comelec will include the provision of transportation allowance, food and water allowance, and clean-up and repair or maintenance expenses as part of its budget proposal for the upcoming elections.
