THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has junked the last petition for disqualification against presidential frontrunner Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. "due to lack of merit."

Denied by the Comelec First Division was the petition filed by Pudno Nga Ilokano (Ang Totoong Ilokano), which cited Marcos' conviction on tax-related cases in 1995 when he was still vice governor of Ilocos Norte.

"WHEREFORE, premises considered, the instant Petition, is hereby DENIED for LACK OF MERIT," read the decision released by the Comelec on Wednesday.

It was unanimously signed by First Division Presiding Commissioner Socorro Inting, and Commissioners Aimee Ferolono and Aimme Torrefranca-Neri.

Petitioners in the dismissed case were Margarita Salonga Salandanan, Crisanto Ducusin Palabay, Mario Flore Ben, Danilo Austria Consumido Raoul Hafalla Tividad, Nida Mallare Gatchallan, and Nomer Calulot Kuan.

The case was originally with the Comelec Second Division headed by Commissioner Marlon Casquejo but was transferred to Inting's division.
