BOCAUE, Bulacan: The campaign period has indeed begun.
Presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and his running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio got the ball rolling as the two candidates started on their campaign trail with a proclamation rally here at the Philippine Arena on Tuesday.
Thousands of supporters packed the multi-purpose facility, which is tagged by the Guinness World Records as the world's largest indoor arena.
Amid cheers and applause from the crowd, Marcos and Duterte-Carpio took to the stage for their proclamation rally, which was also highlighted by the formal introduction of the entire UniTeam's senatorial ticket.
These include Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, House Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta, lawyer Larry Gadon, House Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, former senator Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada, former Public Works chief Mark Villar, former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr., former defense chief Gilbert Teodoro, former Quezon City mayor Herbert Bautista, and former Information and Communications Technology secretary Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan 2nd.
In the most recent Pulse Asia survey released in December 2021, Marcos and Duterte-Carpio led the presidential and vice-presidential race, respectively.
Marcos Jr., however, is still facing three disqualification cases—the decision on which has yet to be released by Comelec's First Division.
In a previous interview with television host Korina Sanchez, Marcos recognized the possibility of Duterte-Carpio replacing him if they win the May 9 elections and if the petition against him is granted.
Duterte-Carpio, however, said that talking about her "possibly replacing" Marcos is "exceptionally unpleasant."
