SAMAL, Bataan: As the sun rose on Thursday, a familiar song during the administration of Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was played through an interconnected sound system in different sitios of an agricultural village here.
Through loudspeakers, the song "Bagong Lipunan" was repeatedly played from the barangay (village) hall of Sta. Lucia and transmitted to the sitios.
The song revived by President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in his campaign was played in the barangay a day after BBM and Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio were proclaimed winners in the May 9, 2022 elections by a joint session of Congress.
Senators and congressmen, acting as members of the National Board of Canvassers, proclaimed Marcos on Wednesday as duly-elected President with total votes of more than 31 million and Duterte-Carpio as Vice President garnering more than 32 million votes.
Sta. Lucia barangay chairman Ruperto Forbes confided that he has heard the song since childhood.
Forbes said with the smooth and orderly proclamation of the two highest leaders, it is already a sign of unity that will bring success to the new administration.
"Let us face the reality that we have new leaders," the barangay chairman said.
