Senator Bongbong Marcos graced the People Asia Magazine’s 2010 People of the Year Awards Night at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Hotel on 10 January 2011, to marvel at and tip his hat to the awardees who were chosen and hailed by the publication as, “extraordinary individuals who have made a difference in the lives of others by their work, advocacies and character” for the year 2010.
The 2010 awardees included Senator Bongbong’s colleague Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, Miss Universe fourth runner-up Venus Raj, fashion designer Josie Cruz Natori, broadcaster Mike Enriquez, furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue, designer Rachy Cuna, fashion designer Rhett Eala, composer Ryan Cayabyab, architect Felino Palafox, Jr., Fr. Rocky Evangelista of the Tuloy Foundation, and Philippine Airlines president-CEO Jaime Bautista.
Special awards also went to Thierry Tea, CEO of Eurocopter Phils. Corp., who organized rescue missions during the Ondoy flood in 2009, and to Raissa Dawn Laurel, the law student who survived the grenade blast at last year’s Bar Examinations held at De La Salle University in Manila. Raissa Laurel was congratulated by Senator Bongbong–who was visibly in awe of the lady’s courage and perseverance–before she ascended the stage to personally receive her award from no less than President Noynoy Aquino. The President said that he was inspired by Raissa Laurel and the rest of the awardees, and also challenged the awardees to, “continue to display (their) dedication and excellence in (their) fields in order to contribute to (the Filipinos’) hope of restoring our nation’s dignity and pride.”
People Asia Magazine is an 11-year old publication of Stargate Media Corp., of which Jose Manuel “Babe” G. Romualdez sits at the helm. The event was hosted by popular hosts Johnny Litton and Joey Mead.
