7 April 2014

Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Government, will lead the public hearing tomorrow, April 8, 2014, on two separate bills filed by Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid, both seeking to amend the Local Government Code of the Philippines. The committee hearing is set to start at 10 a.m. and will be held at Function Room A, Legend Seafood Restaurant, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.

One of the twin measures on the table of the panel is Senate Bill 922, which seeks to amend Section 433, 454, and 463 of Republic Act No 7160, otherwise known as the “Local Government Code of the Philippines”. In municipalities where tourism is a significant industry, the proponent of said bill wants that a Tourism Officer be appointed, in accordance with the qualifications set forth in Republic Act No. 9593, otherwise known as the “Tourism Act of 2009”.

Likewise up for the panel’s discussion is Senate Bill 2093, entitled, “An Act Mandating the Appointment of Municipal Agriculturists in Municipalities where Agriculture is a Significant Industry, Amending for the Purpose Section 433 and 482 (A) of Republic Act 7160, as Amended, Otherwise Known as the Local Government Code of the Philippines”.

Sen. Bongbong’s committee will be joined by the Committee on Agriculture and Food, chaired by Senator Cynthia Villar; Senate Committee on Finance, chaired by Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero; and Senate Committee on Tourism, chaired by Sen. Lapid.
