Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. encouraged graduates of Dr. Filemon C. Aguilar Memorial College of Las Pinas (DFCAMC-LP) to work hard and never give up in pursuing their dreams.
In his speech as guest of honor at the commencement exercises of DFCAMC-LP last April 11, 2014, Sen. Bongbong congratulated the graduates, noting that they reached their goal by enduring difficult and demanding professors, studying hard, and laboring long hours to complete their course requirements.
He then thanked Sen. Cynthia Villar for inviting him to be the guest speaker in the graduation rites as he also commended the Aguilar family and the City of Las Pinas for establishing the college to offer free college education to the deserving youth of the city.
“Deeply held values are the only true foundations we can build our lives on as individuals, and in a wider and higher plane, as a nation and as a people,” Sen. Bongbong said.
He emphasized that “the first and most important value that one should never forget is the value of hard work and the importance of real effort,” citing as example the story of Manny Pacquiao, who achieved his status as a world-renowned, legendary boxer through sheer hard work and perseverance.
Sen. Bongbong also mentioned former Senate President Manny B. Villar, who rose from poverty through “sipag at tiyaga” to be one of the most accomplished, successful, and wealthiest Filipinos today.
The Senator also warned the graduates that “earning and making money is not all there is to life,” as he noted that the country’s richest have found ways to channel their wealth to assist less fortunate fellow-countrymen.
Sen. Bongbong said the parents of the graduates deserved as much accolade as their sons and daughters, for it was their sacrifice and hard work that enabled their children to earn their college degrees.
