At the People’s Gym in Tuguegarao City, Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong R. Marcos, Jr. led thousands of spectators in giving Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao a standing ovation for his win over WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, Jr.
The senator chose to watch the fight in a public viewing venue to be one with the people in supporting Pacquiao.
As ring announcer Michael Buffer declared the victory of the “People’s Champ” by unanimous decision Sen. Bongbong raised his hands in jubilation to the booming chant: “Manny, Manny, Manny!”
“Ang galing talaga ni Manny. Bumalik ‘yung bilis niya at tsaka lakas ng suntok n’ya,” he told reporters who sought his reaction.
Boxing judges Michael Pernick and Tom Metcalfe scored it 116-112 and veteran Glenn Trowbridge scored it 118-111 all in favor of Manny.
The victory is sweet for the Pinoy fighting pride and the entire Filipino nation, as Pacquiao avenged his controversial split decision loss to Bradley in June 2012, a move which majority of boxing pundits labelled a robbery.
It likewise put to rest any speculation that Pacquiao’s career is over, after the shocking 6th round knockout he suffered from Juan Manuel Marquez in their 4th fight last December 2012. The victory has affirmed his long-held reputation as one of the elite pound-for-pound boxers in the world.
