Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. underscored the importance of sports in leading young people away from a life of drugs and crime, in a message he delivered at the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Ermita Cup sports tournament in Balayan, Batangas last April 5, 2014.
Sponsored by Congresswoman Elenita “Eileen” Ermita-Buhain, the Ermita Cup is a summer sports tournament where top athletes from eight towns of the 1st District of Batangas-- Balayan, Calaca, Calatagan, Lemery, Lian, Nasugbu, Taal, and Tuy, participate and compete in various sports events such as basketball and volleyball.
Bongbong said.
He noted that the Ermita Cup has not only produced professional athletes but also contributed to providing athletic scholarships for students in many schools in the congressional district.
Sen. Bongbong and Sen. Cynthia Villar attended the opening day of the sports fest by the invitation of Cong. Eileen and her father, former Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita. According to Sen. Bongbong, the former executive secretary—who initiated the Ermita Cup, which is now in its 13th year---should be commended for “his foresight in recognizing the importance of sport in the development of our young people in the development of our community.”
Bongbong remarked.
