Barangay officials of South Cotabato have thrown their overwhelming and unwavering support to Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. for his effort to promote through legislation the welfare of barangay elected officials and volunteer workers all over the country.
Marcos, chair of the Senate local government committee, was the guest of honor and speaker during the 12th Provincial Liga Congress and 11th Mobile Conference of the Liga ng mga Barangay ng Pilipinas-South Cotabato Chapter held Wednesday (March 19, 2014) at Bayview Park Hotel, Manila.
The barangay officials considered Marcos as an ally in the Senate who recognizes their contribution in grassroots level public service, participation in good governance, and who understands as well their situation and predicament.
Marcos’ recognition of the contribution of barangay officials is the substance of his proposed measure giving benefits to retiring elected barangay officials and volunteer workers like day care and health workers.
Aside from retirement benefits, the senator is equally pushing, in the same bill, for the institutionalization of death benefits to barangay officials.
