Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. has commended what he described as “bayanihan,” referring to the cooperation displayed by the Filipinos through a public-private partnership for helping the victims of super typhoon “Yolanda.”

In his speech during the “Bayani Challenge: Walang Iwanan” awarding ceremony in Libacao, Aklan on Monday, May 5, 2014, the Senator said that “it was inspiring to know that as a Filipino nation, and as a community of nations, we are all doing something.”

“Mula sa ating sariling bansa o mula sa ibayong dagat, we witnessed a ‘bayanihan,’ on an international scale and a massive one, at that. We are eternally grateful to our friends in the international community for not forgetting us during our dark days,” Sen. Bongbong said.

“Bayani Challenge: Walang Iwanan” was a project of Libacao Mayor Vincent I. Navarosa. It encouraged the people of Libacao to volunteer for Gawad Kalinga (GK), which builds houses and implements relief operations for families rendered homeless by super typhoon Yolanda.

“We thank all of the volunteers, especially Gawad Kalinga, as well as the International Organization for Migration, Non-Timber Forest Products, Inc., and other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for organizing and executing the housing project. Maraming salamat po sa pagdamay at pag-alalay sa ating mga kapatid na nasalanta dito sa bahagi ng ating bansa, sa bayan ng Libacao, Aklan,” Sen. Bongbong said.

He called on the local government of Libacao to study and map out its needs and draw up its plan for rebuilding and retrofitting a resilient community. “As the challenge for us is that we build back better, the prerequisite challenge for the national government is to deliver the funds sooner and deliver them faster,” he said.

“Let us work together and help each other come up with the best possible rehabilitation plan for our beloved Libacao. Rest assured you have my support in the Senate as chairman of the committees on local government and public works. Makakaasa kayo sa aking tulong na mangalampag sa ating gobyerno,” Marcos said.

He added: “Sa tema natin na “Walang Iwanan,” payagan ninyo sana ako na palawakin pa ito; dapat din ay “Walang Kalimutan.” Huwag nating kalimutang magpasalamat at tumanaw ng utang na loob. Let us also display to the whole world our oft-overlooked quality that we are a gracious and grateful people.”
