Featured-Image-Philippine-StarMANILA, Philippines – The namesake and son of the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos hailed President Aquino over his move to allow the public to decide on the burial of his late father.

Sen. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said it was ironic that only President Aquino dared to seek the public pulse on the issue of the burial of his father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

“The issue has never been taken up by (any) administration and it’s ironic this is the only time during the term of President Aquino that we were allowed to explain our side,” Marcos told a news forum in Quezon City yesterday.

Marcos said Aquino did not outright reject the proposal to give his father’s remains a hero’s burial, being a former president and a decorated soldier.

Marcos said Vice President Jejomar Binay has already informed his family of the result of the nationwide consultations and they are anxiously waiting for the report.

The issue is also being awaited by lawyer Oliver Lozano, a Marcos loyalist.

Lozano said the inclusion of the name of the late president in the roster of war veterans at the Department of National Defense and a resolution signed by more than 200 congressmen could be a legal basis to push for the burial of the former president at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
