Senate Bill No. 2188: Quality Education for Our Students
Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. filed a bill that proposes a moratorium on the creation of new State Universities and Colleges and the conversion or upgrading of State Colleges into Universities for a period of three years. He pointed out the excessive proliferation of new Universities vis-a-vis the downward trend in the budgetary allocation for these SUC’s resulting in a decline in the quality of education as a consequence. He proposed a reassessment of the situation with the objective of assuring that our students are getting quality education that would truly meet the challenges of the changing times to provide us WITH a competitive work and management force in the global economic community. He stated that our emphasis must be on quality over quantity in government’s education program.
