Senate approves cityhood of San Pedro, Laguna on 3rd and final reading

The efforts of Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. in the Senate to push for the conversion of San Pedro, Laguna into a city have paid off.

This developed after the Senate on Monday (January 28, 2013) approved on third and final reading House Bill No. 5768, which seeks to convert the municipality of San Pedro into a component city of the province of Laguna.

Marcos sponsored the bill for approval of the Senate in his capacity as Chairman of the Committee on Local Governments.

In seeking the approval of the measure, Marcos pointed out that San Pedro has satisfied the income and population requirements under the Local Government Code of 1991 for conversion to cityhood.

“Your Committee believes that such conversion would translate into an efficient local governance, that would mean development, prosperity and better quality of life for its people,” Marcos said in asking the Senate to approve the measure.
