Sen. Marcos urges BuCor to investigate and charge jail guards conniving with bilibid inmates
Bersyon sa Filipino.
Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. today called for a thorough investigation of jail guards of the New Bilibid Prisons and the prosecution of those found conniving with the inmates.
Marcos aired the call after the latest in a series of raids yielded appliances, cellphones, tablets and other electronic gadgets, drugs and other contrabands. Among those confiscated in earlier raids included high-powered guns and other deadly weapons.
Earlier, the Senator said the next administration must ramp up its drive against criminal elements as he expressed alarm over the rising incidences of crime and the growing menace of illegal drugs in the past few years.
“How can you expect drug lords and other criminals to dread the prospect of being jailed or undergo reform when they can live a life of ease inside prisons and even pursue their illegal trade using smuggled gadgets?” Marcos asserted.
Marcos said the fact that many of the illegal contrabands were found in the possession of the jail guards clearly indicates connivance with inmates.
“They must be investigated thoroughly and prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” Marcos stressed.
Marcos commended the Bureau of Corrections for its persistence in implementing “Oplan Galudad” within the NBP compound.
“The BuCor should not stop until they rid the NBP of prohibited items and institute corrective measures to minimize, if not stop altogether, connivance between the jail guards and the inmates,” Marcos concluded.
