Sen. Bongbong leads guests in honoring top Pinoy visual artists for 2013

Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. led special guests who handed the trophies to winners of the prestigious Philippine Art Award 2013 held on March 27, 2014 at the Yuchengco Museum in Ayala Avenue, Makati City.

Sen. Bongbong handed the trophies, together with equally special guests like National Artist Benedicto Cabrera, Congresswoman Delphine Lee, and Mrs. Bettina Lopez-Osmeña, beloved wife of Senator Serge Osmeña. The senator’s younger sister, Irene Marcos-Araneta, also graced the awards night.

The senator’s mother, Rep. Imelda Marcos, is known to be an art lover, a passion her children similarly embraced.

Arturo Sanchez, Jr. of Angono, Rizal, won the grand prize for his work entitled “In the Hour of Darkness, There is Always Light”. Aside from a trophy, he also received P350,000 cash prize.

Also awarded with trophies and cash prizes were 40 regional winners: 10 each from Luzon, Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Out of the 40 winners, 8 were selected national winners: 5 winners for Juror’s Choice Award of Merit, 2 winners for Juror’s Choice Award of Excellence, and 1 Grand Prize Winner (Sanchez).

The Philippine Art Award 2013 was organized by Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation.

After the awarding ceremony, Sen. Bongbong led the other guests in viewing the art exhibit at the third floor of the RCBC building, where the Yuchengco Museum is located.
