Poll Defeat Looms for Gibo
If he won’t reach out to FVR, JDV, Bayani
Ilocos Norte Rep. Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. has warned that Defense Secretary and presidential aspirant Gilbert ‘Gibo’ Teodoro Jr. will suffer defeat in next year’s elections if he fails to unify the warring factions within the administration party.
Teodoro was recently chosen as standard bearer of the newly merged Lakas-Kampi-CMD. But his nomination remains in doubt because of the pending petition of former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. that questioned the legality of the merger between Lakas-CMD and President Arroyo’s Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi).
De Venecia claimed the merger violated the constitution and by-laws of Lakas-CMD, the political party he co-founded with former President Fidel V. Ramos.
Marcos said Teodoro should reach out to the Lakas founders if he wants his party-mates to give solid support to his candidacy, noting both De Venecia and Ramos continue to have clout among Lakas members.
“Gibo needs to talk and court FVR and JDV because they still have supporters within Lakas. We may not hear from them now but they will surely come out as the Election Day approaches,” Marcos stressed.
Marcos said Teodoro must also convince Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando to support his candidacy despite the latter’s failure to get the endorsement of the administration party’s executive committee.
“BF is good and he also has many supporters. Gibo needs to talk to BF,” he said.
There were reports that Fernando is eyeing an alliance with the group of Ramos and De Venecia after he failed to get Lakas-Kampi-CMD nomination.
Marcos also said Teodoro should prevent the three from forming an alliance because they might create a force that could ruin his chances to become the next president.
Marcos also advised the administration standard bearer to start distancing himself from President Arroyo if he wants to win in 2010, believing that an endorsement from the unpopular leader is a “kiss of death.”
Kailangang pakiusapan at suyuin sina FVR, JDV at BF
