Politiko – ‘Di pa rin maka-move on kay Bongbong! Imee Marcos wants Smartmatic replaced as poll tech provider

Senator Imee Marcos wants another company to provide the technology for the 2022 elections instead of the Argentinian firm Smartmatic.

In a radio interview Saturday (September 26), Marcos said Smartmatic appears to “box out” other technology companies in bidding since the law states that bidders should have an experience providing technology in two previous elections.

“Meron din largest contract, siyempre Smartmatic ‘yan. ‘Yun ang problema natin,” she said.

Marcos said she doesn’t mind that President Rodrigo Duterte appointed several commissioners to the Comelec. Her biggest concern, she added, is who among the poll body’s officials are loyal to Smartmatic.

“Sa Comelec, I think we have to be very careful. Ang usapan ‘di loyalty sa nag-appoint. Ang tinatanong sinong loyal sa Smartmatic. Sana ‘di naman totoo and makapasok ang ibang supplier,” she said.

Smartmatic has been providing the technology for automated elections in the Philippines since 2010.

Marcos’ brother, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., claimed he was cheated in the 2016 vice presidential race.
