MANILA, Sept. 13 (PNA) – Rumors of coup d’etat in the Senate will continue to persist but for Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile is too good to be replaced.

”Nobody wanted to replace the Senate President because right as you can see, his performance is very good,” Marcos told the media on Thursday after distributing over 2,000 bags of relief goods to the victims of recent calamities in Meycauayan and Pasig as part of his 55th birthday celebration.

Marcos, one of the new members of the Senate, said he has no idea about coup in the Senate.

”I have no knowledge about any kind of coup d’etat. I’m very much satisfied with the leadership of Senate President Enrile. I think he (is) still one of the best leaders of the Senate,” Marcos said.

Enrile showed his efficiency when he successfully presided the impeachment trial of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona early this year.

”He (Enrile) is very effective. I don’t see any real flaws in his leadership. His age doesn’t affect at all his performance,” Marcos said.

Enrile, 89, served as defense minister under the administration of Marcos’ father, former strongman Ferdinand E. Marcos.

In a Senate media forum on Thursday, Senator Loren Legarda belittled the coup rumors, joining many of her colleagues who said Enrile “is doing a very good job.”

”I strong(ly) believe that the Senate President is doing a very good job. I think we should deviate from too much politics and just do our work,” Legarda said.

The Senate is busy working on the Reproductive Health (RH) bill, Sin Tax bill, proposed 2013 National Budget, and the investigation on rice smuggling.

Enrile earlier confirmed move to unseat him and stressed he is more than willing to give his position to any of his colleagues who wanted to take over.
