Manila Bulletin – Miriam-Marcos tandem turns up the heat in Baguio

The Santiago-Marcos presidential and vice-presidential tandem turned up the heat yesterday in Baguio City, the nation’s summer capital, by drawing thousands of supporters at the Saint Louis University.
This is the second time in less than a week that the pair – Senators Miriam Defensor Santiago and Ferdinand “Bongbong’’ R. Marcos Jr. – was seen together.
Santiago and Marcos visited Iloilo City on Wednesday, and delivered speeches at the University of the Philippines Visayas.
Speaking before some 4,000 students of Saint Louis University in Baguio City yesterday, Santiago said: “I can see the future in the horizon and that future is in your hands.’’
Deafening cheers that greeted the “Miriam-Bongbong” tandem wouldn’t stop from the moment the two entered the campus.
Marcos announced that the “intelligent choice’’ for the presidency and the vice presidency has arrived as he thanked students, faculty members and all the people involved in organizing the event.
“We are the intelligent choice. It is only here where you will hear proffered real solutions to the problems we are facing, not a political courtship,” he said referring to their tandem.
He said that the first step towards progress is unity of all the Filipinos, and he called on the youth to join him in his campaign for unity and cooperation.
“The first step is to a movement for unity. We ask you to join the Miriam-Bongbong leadership to make this happen,” he said to the loud cheers of the students.
Santiago’s active political campaign is being affected by her stage four, left lung cancer. She is undergoing treatment.
Santiago took a swipe at rivals who “pretend to be poor,” claiming that she is the only presidential candidate with limited funds for the campaign. “The charge against me is poverty, and I plead guilty of that offense,” she said.
