Malaya – Marcos: Ideal poster boy for anti-smoking is Aquino
By JP Lopez | Malaya
SEN. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. yesterday urged President Aquino to be the administration’s poster boy by cutting down on his smoking.
“He was told by his doctor to quit smoking, and since his administration wants to reduce smoking in the country by imposing higher taxes on tobacco products, why not start from him?” Marcos said in a radio interview.
“Mahirap naman na gusto ng gobyerno niya na mabawasan ang naninigarilyo, pero naninigarilyo pa siya. Siguro he should start quitting slowly,” he said.
Marcos does not smoke, saying he is asthmatic.
The issue about Aquino’s habit was once again a topic when his keynote address at the 9th Media Nation Summit in Tagaytay City last Friday was interrupted by coughing and sneezing.
Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Aquino has not fully recovered from influenza and allergic rhinitis he contracted before he went to Cambodia last week for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.
