These house bills propose to declare specific days as special nonworking public holidays in various local government units.

Local holidays signify commemorative events in the communities concerned. It usually marks the founding anniversary, or the charter day of the local government unit, or the birth or death of a prominent personality who is a native of the LGU celebrating the local event.

The declaration of local holidays through congressional legislations will permanently preserve and uphold the local historical and significant events that enrich the cultural heritage of local government units. These remarkable milestones will deeply engrave into the hearts and minds of the constituents of the LGUs concerned through their active participation and meaningful commemoration of momentous local celebrations.

These local festivities will serve as great avenues for the LGUs to promote their products, places and business opportunities that would welcome local as well as foreign visitors from all over the country, thereby boosting the economic growth of the LGUs.

In view thereof, I hereby appeal to my colleagues in this August Chamber to join me in the approval of the above mentioned house bills that will foster local unity through colorful tradition and historical memoirs.

Thank you, Mr. President.
