Journal Online – Marcos urges alternative to overriding PNoy veto

Featured-Image-Journal-Online.jpgNacionalista Senators Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Cynthia Villar believe that the Senate would not be able to muster 16 votes to override President Benigno Aquino’s veto of the Congress-ratified measure granting P2,000 across-the-board increase in the pension of retired members of the Social Security System (SSS).

Marcos also called for an end to the impasse created as a result of the veto of the proposed increase in the SSS monthly pension saying that Congress and Malacañang should now “move forward to find alternative ways to look for a win-win solution to the issue.”

He appealed to both legislative and executive branches to work together and set aside politics rather than overriding the veto of the President. “Ang hirap gawin ng override dahil two-thirds (votes) ang kailangan hindi lamang sa House (of Representatives) kundi pati sa Senado,” said Marcos.

“So, mas maganda kung magkaisa pati ‘yung executive na maghanap ng paraan na pagandahin nga ang koleksyon, mga win-win solution, pagandahin ang investment para kayanin ‘yung P2,000 na dagdag,” he said.

“Makakabuo ba kami ng 16 votes? Mahirap na ‘yun,” asked Villar. Marcos said that the controversy should serve as a “lesson” to the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office (PLLO) to improve its coordination mechanisms to prevent the same case in the future.

“This should be a wake-up call for the PLLO which plays a crucial role in making sure that the President and the legislators in both Houses of Congress have proper coordination through proper communication and information dissemination. All these controversy would not have happened if both branches have been properly guided by the PLLO,” said Marcos.

The PLLO, which is under the Office of the President, has been created to liaise with both Houses of Congress on all matters relating to legislation to ensure that “(t)he Executive and Legislative Branches of government (work) together in a harmonious, collaborative and transparent environment for the attainment of goals beneficial to the greater majority of the Filipino people.”

Marcos said SSS should try harder to improve its collection and improve its management strategies.
