Featured-Image-Journal-OnlineSenator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged the government to expedite the crafting of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) so that Congress will have ample time to scrutinize it and eventually pass it before the end of 2014.

The Senate is committed to pass by the end of 2014 the Bangsamoro Basic Law that will serve as the guidepost in creating the Bangsamoro entity to replace the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

The Senate committee on local government which Marcos chairs is expected to tackle and finalize the BBL. The senator said he met with Secretary Teresita Deles, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, during the state dinner for US President Barack Obama last April 29, and inquired about when the government will submit the BBL to the Senate.

“I saw Secretary Deles during state dinner of Obama. We spoke about it (and asked her), ‘When are you going to send it to me because very tight na ’yung timetable,” Marcos supposedly told Deles.

“Iyung schedule, kung bakit tight is because the plebiscite has to be conducted. And Comelec has explained that there is a deadline beyond which it would be very difficult to hold a plebiscite dahil naghahanda na sila for the 2016 elections,” he said in a media forum.

He added: “In fact, we came upon the same situation sa SK (Sangguniang Kabataan) elections. So it’s the same factor dito sa Bangsamoro. I’m quite confident that when we come back they would already be ready with a basic law, organic law. In the meantime, there’s a lot of work to be done.”
