TWO House opposition leaders warned yesterday of a zero budget next year against the Commission on Elections (Comelec) if it will not replace Venezuela-based Smartmatic-Total Information Management (TIM) Corporation in providing automated election 2019.
House Minority Floor Leader and Quezon Rep. Danilo “Danny” Suarez said there were alleged lapses on the part of Smartmatic in handling the automation during the recent polls.
“Kapag ginamit nila ang Smartmatic, we’ll move for the rejection ng budget ng Comelec for 2019,” Suarez told reporters.
House senior Deputy Minority Floor Leader and Buhay Hayaang Yumabong (BUHAY) party-list Rep. Lito Atienza said the electoral protest between Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. before the Supreme Court (SC) which acts as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) was an offshoot of the alleged lapses of Smartmatic in the last presidential polls.
