InterAksyon_featured_imageMANILA – Voting unanimously, the Senate on Tuesday approved a resolution ordering the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to submit the official copy of its own inquiry report regarding the Mamasapano incident.

Authored by Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and co-authored by 14 senators who were present during the deliberations led by Senate President Franklin Drilon, the chamber approved Senate Proposed Resolution No. 1240.

The measure said that, after the Mamasapano incident, which killed 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos, 18 MILF fighters and 5 civilians, the organization launched its own investigation.

However, the measure further noted that there are accounts that the MILF report will be submitted to the Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team (IMT) composed of representatives from Japan, Indonesia and Brunei, and supported by the United States and the European Union.

“For full transparency and accountability, there is a crucial need for the Philippine government to be properly informed of the full investigation report of the MILF on the Mamasapano incident, in order to strengthen the ceasefire mechanisms that may be included in the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law now pending in Congress,” Marcos said in the resolution.

He also urged peace panel chief negotiator Prof. Miriam Coronel-Ferrer to persuade the MILF to submit its report to the Senate.

“The Philippine peace negotiating panel headed by Chairperson Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, tasked to pursue peace negotiations with the MILF, should exert utmost efforts to secure the MILF Investigation Report so that the truth behind the Mamasapano tragedy that claimed the lives of 44 SAF heroes, will be revealed,” Marcos said.
