MANILA, Philippines – Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos lauded the passing of the “long-overdue” law approving two additional districts in Quezon City in time for the 2013 midterm elections.

House Bill No. 4245 signed by President Benigno Aquino III as Republic Act. No. 10170 on July 2, shall divide the present District 2 of Quezon City into three districts, thus creating Districts 5 and 6. HB 4245 was passed in 1992.

In a statement, Marcos said that the redistricting measure of Quezon City will be beneficial for the residents of Quezon City.
“With the large population of Quezon City, the people of this local government unit undoubtedly deserve additional seats in the House of Representatives,” said Marcos who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Government.

He added that District 2, “has a constituency in size and land area bigger than all the other existing districts in Quezon City combined.”

According to the 2010 records of Quezon City, its 2nd District accounts for more than 1.7 million of the city’s total 2.9 million population. RA 10170 will divide it evenly among three districts, each having proper political representation in the House of Representatives and local City Council. The new law also provides that the reapportionment of Quezon City’s Legislative districts shall take effect in the next national and local election following the signing of the law.
