It’s still a neck-and-neck battle between Senators Francis “Chiz” Escudero and Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for the vice presidency, judging from the results of the mobile survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).
Escudero was the top choice of 30 percent of respondents while Marcos had 28 percent, making the two statistical tied for first place.
Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, however, was not far behind with 23 percent, followed by Senator Alan Peter Cayetano 11 percent, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with 4 percent, and Senator Gregorio Honasan II with 2 percent.
Of the 1,200 validated voters chosen to be the survey’s respondents, 806 or 67 percent responded in the March 22 survey. Three percent of the respondents had no preferred candidate.
The survey had error margins of ±3 percent for national percentages, and ±7 percent in Metro Manila, rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Escudero is the running mate of Senator Grace Poe, who edged out her four rivals with a 35-percent support from potential voters in the same survey. Marcos, on the other hand, is the running mate of Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago.
Across geographical areas, Escudero leads in Metro Manila and Balance Luzon with 33 percent and 35 percent, respectively, but Marcos is only a point behind with 32 percent and 34 percent in those areas. Robredo is far behind with 19 percent.
In Visayas, Robredo, running mate of administration standard bearer Mar Roxas, enjoys an eight-point lead with 36 percent to Escudero’s 28 percent, while Marcos and Cayetano came in at 15 percent and 11 percent, respectively.
Mindanao proved to be a tighter race as Marcos had 25 percent, while Escudero and Robredo are tied for second with 21 percent each.
Cayetano, meanwhile, had 20 percent, also enjoying the support given to his running mate, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the area.
