Daily Tribune – 63M botante target ng Comelec sa 2022 polls

Target ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) na umabot sa 62 milyon hanggang 63 milyon ang mga botante na lalahok sa eleksiyon sa 2022 sa kabila ng pandemyang nararanasan sa bansa.

“From 61 million in 2019 we deactivated three million voters for failing to vote twice. That brought us down to around 59 million in terms of registered voters. But with these new numbers are coming in again with four million potential registrants and a million voters applying for reactivation, we project that we will have from anywhere around 62 million to 63 million voters in 2022,” sabi ni Comelec spokesman James Jimenez.

Inamin ni Jimenez na hindi naman umaasa ang Comelec na makakamit ang target sa harap naman ng epekto ng coronavirus disease (COVID-19) sa bansa.

“This estimate right now conservative. Actually, it used to be conservative, but with the pandemic, this is looking more and more like a radical projection and we might not even get to 61 million with the way things are going,” dagdag ni Jimenez.

Sinabi ni Jimenez na bukod sa bilang ng mga botante, kabilang sa pinaghahandaan ng Comelec ay tiyakin ang mapayapang halalan, kasama na ang paghahain ng certificate of candidacy (COC), ang kampanya at ang mismong araw ng eleksiyon.

“So election preparation is one of the things we are very concerned about. What we are looking to retool essentially is to make it COVID safe,” dagdag ni Jimenez.
