Business Mirror – Marcos laments: One year after, no one convicted for Mamasapano Massacre yet
Nearly one year after the so-called Mamasapano Massacre of 44 Special Action Force (SAF) commandos by Moro rebels and outlaws on January 25, 2015, Sen. Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. protested that none of the suspects have yet been convicted for the crime.
Marcos griped that “even with clear evidence backed by videos” that recorded the mass killing of SAF commandos, the perpetrators said to be members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter have yet to be haled to court.
Marcos suggested granting official citation to all the members of the SAF, who took part in the fatal mission, that also bagged a wanted international terrorist-bomber Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan.
Meanwhile, President Aquino has approved the awarding of the Medal of Valor to two officers of the 44 SAF commandos who were killed in the Mamasapano encounter. Director General Ricardo Marquez, National Police chief, said the medals would be handed over by President Aquino to the families of the officers during the National Police’s 25th foundation anniversary at Camp Rafael Crame, Quezon City, on Monday.
“On Monday we are going to celebrate the 25th National Police anniversary and, at the same time, commemorate the heroism of SAF 44. Incidentally, that is also the day the SAF 44 dedicated their lives for peace in our country,” Marquez said.
Marquez added that the President approved only on Thursday the awarding of the highest honor to Senior Insp. Gednat G. Tabdi and Police Officer (PO2) Romeo Cempron for their role in the Mamasapano operation.
Tabdi was the leader of Team 1 of the 84th Special Action Company (SAC).
Even when he was already wounded, Tabdi still led his team to accomplish its mission.
Cempron, on the other hand, was the lead gunner of the main body of the 55th SAC.
When his fellow commandos were already dying, he sacrificed himself as a human shield in order for survivor PO2 Christopher Lalan to move to safety.
