MANILA – Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and other politicians gave different reactions to Pope Francis’ five-day visit to the Philippines.

In his Twitter account, Marcos described the Pope as a man of God who strengthened the faith of Filipinos.

Marcos earlier said he had an audience with the pope when he went to Rome last July. He described the Pope as a “rock star” who is very popular and attuned to the needs of the poor. Meanwhile, Sen. Pia Cayetano praised the Pope for recognizing the role of women in society. This was after the Pope asked for more women representatives during his encounter with the youth at University of Santo Tomas in Manila Sunday.

Albay Gov. Joey Salceda, meanwhile, described the Pope’s visit as “four years of philosophy and theology [classes] in Ateneo compressed into 4 days, with the power of example on top.”

He also said he felt like he did not want the door of the papal plane to close after the Holy Father boarded the flight.

Sen. Sonny Angara, meanwhile, thanked the Philippine government and the Catholic Church for all the preparations for the Pope visit. He also expressed a desire to see the Pope again.

For his part, Senator JV Ejercito shared how he and his family also attended the rain-soaked Mass at Rizal Park on Sunday with millions of other devotees. “Was able to make it to Luneta and heard mass by Pope Francis. Rain was continuous but the wait and getting drenched was worth it. The faith and spirit of the Filipino is amazing! More than 5 million was in attendance. The rain, cold weather, and other factors failed to dampen the spirit of the occasion. So happy to see the Pope in the flesh! Viva il Papa!” he said in a Facebook post.
