If the late former President Ferdinand Marcos considers the number seven as lucky, the camp of his son and namesake hope the number eight will bring him good fortune in the 2022 elections.

The camp of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. welcomed Thursday (January 6) the Commission on Elections’ decision to remove another Marcos from its latest list of presidential contenders.

The declaration of Maria Aurora Marcos and three others as nuisance candidates trimmed the number of presidential candidates to 11 from 15 last December.

In a statement, Marcos’ camp said he’s now the “Lucky 8” in Comelec’s list of presidential contenders, which is arranged alphabetically.

“The number eight is long regarded as the luckiest number in Chinese culture,” his camp said.

There are pending petitions to cancel Marcos’ certificate of candidacy and disqualify him because of a 1995 conviction for tax evasion.

Despite these cases, his name is expected to be included in the ballot since the Comelec’s decision is seen to be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court.
