Ambassador Bjorn Jahnsen of Norway has committed to continue supporting the peace process in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) under the incoming administration.
Jahnsen said he and President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. have discussed continuing the role of Norway in the peace process during his courtesy visit to the BBM headquarters in Mandaluyong City today, June 15.
“What we discussed in most detail on the peace talks was Norway’s engagement in the Bangsamoro. Norway is the vice chair of something called independent decommissioning body charged with decommissioning former combatants,” Jahnsen said.
He added that 20,000 of the 40,000 combatants have been decommissioned “so we are halfway there.”
Norway is the third-party facilitator in the peace talk.
