Toni Gonzaga became the 10th trending topic on Twitter Monday (Sept. 12) for interviewing former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on her vlog, “Toni Talks.”
Netizens have mixed reactions to the interview, which was uploaded a day after the birthday of Marcos’ late father and namesake.
Some netizens bashed the host-actress for providing a platform for Marcos, who earlier said he will be running for national office in 2022.
“Sa lahat ng pinagdaanan natin, hindi pa rin talaga naiintindihan ni Toni Gonzaga yung responsibility niya bilang artist na may malaking following. Knowing the sincerity of her efforts for ABS-CBN’s workers last year, ito yung hindi ko maintindihan – what’s not clicking, Toni?” tweeted screenwriter Hyro Aguinaldo (@heyrow).
“On Toni Talks, BBM says he wants the new generation to know that he is “the son of the longest lasting President who brought the Philippines into the modern world.” Malamang naman sa 2 dekada dahil sa martial law eh talagang umabot na sa modern times ang Pinas,” former PTV host @julesguiang said.
“Toni Talks? More like Toni Talks-ic!!! Has a platform and yet this is how she chooses to use it, to give space for ppl like BBM to take back their power. Disappointed at Toni, but not surprised at this point,” tweeted @ashleyp3rdiem.
Other netizens, however, see nothing wrong with the interview because Gonzaga also featured other politikos on her vlog in the past, including Vice President Leni Robredo and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade.
“Not a fan of miss Toni and not a Marcos apologist but KALMA…at this point she interviewed several politicians coming from the two sides political spectrum and other personalities. shes got her platform I think shes just being neutral,” tweeted @janinaxbelle.
“To b fair, Toni has interviewed VP Leni also. So i think she is just being neutral We shld not quick to judge if it goes out our way or principles, she is just trying to present to us & later b the judge. We shld also b open minded that life works that way. There shld b respect,” said @JamesCedricLim.
“Some wokes are so pikon w/ Toni G bec of her #ToniTalks ep w/ @bongbongmarcos as a guest. I say, it’s her channel. Let her talk to anyone she wants. Don’t like the guest, don’t watch it. Period. Easy. But ya’ll asking your lot to dislike the video? Idiocy. Hypocrisy,” said @njmldt.
