Senatorial candidate Sorsogon Gov. Francis Escudero said former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should not be disqualified from running in the upcoming presidential elections and allow the voters to decide on his fate.

Escudero said he would like to see the voters decide rather than the commissioners of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the magistrates of the Supreme Court.

“Hindi ko kabisado ang kaso ni BBM sa disqualification case, pero mas gusto ko mag-desisyon yung 64 milyong botante keysa ‘yung pitong mahistrado ng Comelec at 15 mahistrado ng Korte Suprema,” said Escudero in a statement released by Marcos camp.

Escudero said Marcos will most likely win in the May 2022 national polls if he maintains his huge lead in the surveys by next month.

“If numbers in surveys will not change by next month, chances are Bonget (BBM) will win it,” said Escudero, who hosted a caravan and grand rally in Sorsogon for Marcos on Friday.

Escudero advised Marcos not to be confident and continue campaigning since leading the surveys is not an assurance of victory.

“Huwag pa ring tumigil dahil survey lamang ‘yan. Snapshot lamang ‘yan ng opinyon ng ating taong-bayan kung sino ang iboboto nila nung kinuha ang survey. Pwede at posible pa ring magbago,” Escudero stressed.

Escudero also maintained that he will not endorse any presidential and vice presidential candidate for the upcoming elections and said that everybody is welcome to campaign in his province.

“Hindi para sa akin bilang gobernador ng aming lalawigan na pumili para sa aming mga kababayan. Gusto ko makita at makilala nila ng personal ang lahat ng tumatakbo para personal din silang makapanuri kung sino ang kanilang magiging paborito at iboboto at susuportahan,” Escudero added.

He however admitted that he is close to Marcos than Vice President Leni Robredo.

“Actually I’m closer personally to Bonget (BBM’s nickname) than to Vice Pres. Leni. Just how I addressed him, I guess, already shows who I’m closer to. One being addressed with the title, the other using a nickname that’s only his close friends used,” Escudero explained.
