Former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is confident he will beat Vice President Leni Robredo should they both run for president in 2022.
Marcos on Wednesday (Sept. 8) said it’s “entirely possible” for him and Robredo to face off once again in an electoral contest.
“If it’s going to be a one-on-one fight, that will be good because I know I can win that,” he said in an online forum.
Marcos lost to Robredo by over 200,000 votes in the 2016 vice presidential race. The Presidential Electoral Tribunal junked the former senator’s petition questioning the Vice President’s victory but has yet to decide on his appeal.
The son and namesake of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos said he’s closer to deciding on his 2022 political plans but remains coy on what position he will be running for.
Asked if a tandem between him and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is possible, Marcos said: “Everything is possible right now. The only thing that’s impossible is me running with Sen. Ping or with Tito Sen because they’re already clear.”
Senators Panfilo Lacson and Vicente “Tito” Sotto III have announced they will be running for president and vice president, respectively.
