Thank you Senator Bong Go.

Former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has lauded Go for pulling out from the presidential race, saying it was “a selfless gesture” that will benefit the administration team.

Marcos expressed confidence that Go’s withdrawal would boost support for his tandem with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio in the 2022 elections.

Go recently withdrew his candidacy for president after realizing he and his family were really against it. The senator was just convinced by President Duterte to compete for the country’s top office against rivals like Marcos and Vice President Leni Robredo.

“The withdrawal of Sen. Bong Go from the presidential race reinforces this current and signals the consolidation of administration forces to the BBM-Sara UniTeam,” Marcos said in a statement.

Marcos commended Go for his sacrifice, saying it will strengthen the administration forces in the 2022 elections.

“Sen. Bong Go clearly acted his part in strengthening those of us aligned with the Duterte Administration. His withdrawal only mirrored his worth as a true public servant, one who is willing to sacrifice his personal aspirations to serve a common purpose and a higher cause: a unified nation crucial to the national interest,” he said.

After the withdrawal of Go from the 2022 elections, President Duterte has not yet endorse a preferred successor. He has refused to support the presidential run of Marcos, even warning the country against electing a spoiled and weak leader.

Marcos has continued to show respect and support for the President despite his stinging rebuke.

Duterte also withdrew his senatorial candidacy at the poll office, a few hours after Go’s pullout.

Last month, the Politiko reported that Duterte was likely to withdraw his Senate bid and embrace his role as political kingmaker.
