MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged the administration not to ignore the proposal granting his father, the late strongman Ferdinand Marcos, a hero’s burial.
“That resolution cannot be ignored,” Marcos said.
According to Marcos, he did not expect Sorsogon Rep. Salvador Escudero to initiate the proposal to have his father buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Escudero led some 204 lawmakers at the House of Representatives in signing a resolution urging President Aquino to allow the burial of the remains of Marcos – for years in a refrigerated crypt in Ilocos – at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Marcos said he did not even know that this was being done by Escudero.
“He (Escudero) has been going around collecting these signatures without really telling any of us. I thank all of the congressmen who signed in favor and in support of the burial of my father in the Libingan ng mga Bayani,” Marcos said.
Marcos expressed optimism that Vice President Jejomar Binay would consider the resolution in his task of studying the proposals to allow his father to have a state burial.
Marcos previously argued that his father deserves to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani considering the fact that he was a former head of state, commander-in-chief and twice elected as president.
