Senator Bongbong Marcos and Senator Pia Cayetano dropped by Vancouver on October 19th for a quick overnight visit. The two politicos had a gathering with the Filipino-Canadian community at the MultiCultural Helping House Society. Several Ilocano organizations were represented with two groups from the United States. Questions were volleyed at BongBong Marcos whether he would run for Malacañang in the next 2016 elections. He said, “I am happy you are considering me as Presidential candidate. Abangan ang susunod na kabanata. We don’t know what the future will bring. All we can do is be prepared.”
BongBong who still retains his boyish looks said, “It’s good nagtutulungan and ating mga kababayan here in Canada.” He told the mostly immigrant crowd, “Kayo ang bumubuhay sa Pilipinas with your remittances.”
Senator Cayetano cited statistics indicating 10 per cent of Filipino families have a member working overseas. The lady senator said the Filipino diaspora is disrupting the fabric of Filipino families. She also said she is working on a bill to improve medical services in the Philippines – a main concern of Filipino retirees wishing to return to their homeland. Both candidates were on their way to attend the International Parliamentary Union meeting in Quebec. Both Senators encourage the public to contact them through Facebook.
