Featured-Image-Journal-OnlineSENATOR Ferdinand Marcos Jr. yesterday challenged the so-called “left-leaning” advisers of President Benigno Aquino to denounce their former comrades in the communist movement involved in the ambush of Gingoog City Mayor Ruthie de Lara-Guingona Saturday night.

He condemned the ambush of Guingona, wife of former Vice President Teofisto Guingona Jr. and mother of Sen.Teofisto “TG” Guingona III. The New People’s Army had admitted staging the attack which wounded the mayor but killed two of her bodyguards — brothers Nestor and Tomas Velasco — who served as Guingona’s driver and bodyguard, respectively.

“Ano ngayon ang masasabi ng mga maka-kaliwang tagapayo ng Pangulo? Bakit wala silang kibo? Sila dapat ang unang nagkokondena sa kanilang mga dating kasamahan,” Marcos said.

“Maybe their presence in this administration has emboldened the NPAs to step up their atrocities. Bakit ‘pag mga sundalo ang nasasangkot napakabilis nilang sumigaw ng human rights violations?” he added.

”No amount of rationalization can justify such senseless act of violence. The attack against Mayor Guingona is not acceptable to the Filipino people. Even more unacceptable and disgusting is the NPA’s lame and entirely incredible explanation that they did not intend to kill civilians and were only forced to defend themselves,” Marcos said.

Asked whether his family intends to seek legal options against the alleged NPA rebels involved in the attack, Guingona said:”I was informed that the PNP had filed cases already. So, there is no need for us to take legal action because the legal action has already been taken by the government itself by filing criminal charges against the perpetrators.”
