MSMEs to benefit from Bongbong's push to modernize PHLPost

19 April 2022

PRESIDENTIAL frontrunner Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos, Jr. would push for the modernization of the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) to increase government revenue by catering to the last-mile delivery requirements of MSMEs using e-commerce platforms.

The UniTeam presidential bet said PHLPost, a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) postal service provider, is due for a revamp to expand its services.

"We are in the process of studying various options for modernizing the PHLPost.  We intend to make PHLPost an ideal delivery partner for e-commerce platforms by increasing its capability and capacity to service its current customer base as well as MSMEs shifting to an online business model," Marcos said.

Marcos added that the government needs to harness the revenue potential brought by the rise of e-commerce as a preferred method of purchasing goods and services among Pinoys.

Marcos stressed the need to encourage the digital shift among MSMEs, allowing them to partake in the country's growing e-commerce market that is expected to reach $15 billion by 2025, according to market data provider Statista.

"There are so many opportunities in the e-commerce space and we need to give those with the entrepreneurial mindset the opportunity to participate," Marcos added.

Marcos also said the modernization of PHLPost will be done in conjunction with a robust infrastructure development program that will support the local logistics sector.

The Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer is also optimistic that there will be a firm demand for PHLPost's services as consumer appetite for same-day or next-day delivery picks up.

"Apart from increasing the capacity and capability of PHLPost, we will ensure that there is a corresponding infrastructure that would support the growth of our logistics sector. As demand for same-day deliveries for goods increase, we think that PHLPost can fill the gap in servicing outskirt areas," Marcos added.

The former senator and his running-mate Inday Sara Duterte said they intend to continue the Build, Build, Build program started by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

The formidable UniTeam duo also said that they intend to implement a robust digital infrastructure development program to fuel the digital shift in the country's trade and commerce, education, and agriculture research.

"We are in the process of studying various options for modernizing the PHLPost.  We intend to make PHLPost an ideal delivery partner for e-commerce platforms by increasing its capability and capacity to service its current customer base as well as MSMEs shifting to an online business model," sabi ni Marcos.

"There are so many opportunities in the e-commerce space and we need to give those with the entrepreneurial mindset the opportunity to participate," dagdag ni Marcos.

"Apart from increasing the capacity and capability of PHLPost, we will ensure that there is a corresponding infrastructure that would support the growth of our logistics sector. As demand for same-day deliveries for goods increases, we think that PHLPost can fill the gap in servicing outskirt areas," dagdag pa ni Marcos.
