Former senator-turned presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday cited the experience of the National Unity Party (NUP) as a big help for the country’s recovery from the pandemic.

During a private meeting at Pasay City, Marcos thanked NUP for endorsing his candidacy and that of his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“The NUP has been constant and if they choose to go down this road, together with UniTeam, together with myself and Sara, then it must be a good thing to do. Your endorsement and support is particularly important,” Marcos said.

“If we start working together, it’s a very influential decision on the party’s part because the people will see very clearly that these are the people that do not jump back and forth,” he added.

Marcos underscored the role of legislators in any administration.

“Any administration, any president, any leader, any Cabinet is going to need the help of the legislators. We will need the understanding of the legislators on what they are trying to do and why these things we are trying to do are, in fact, to the advantage of the ordinary Filipino,” he said.

“All of you are very experienced, you all know your parochial interest, you also have a very good idea on national interest. I think you will agree with me that you will have to go to basics and fix the bones and the tendons of the economy so that the private sector can build upon it,” he said.

Marcos, who is standard-bearer of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, said he sees robust and efficient partnership with the private and public sectors that will further be boosted by the business experiences of the NUP members.

He added that their familiarity at the grassroots level is also a key factor in assuring a better life for the people.

Marcos also said the earlier endorsement of the PDP-Laban and other influential parties showed that political forces are now embracing the UniTeam’s call for solidarity.

“We can see the confluence of political forces coming together. I look forward to working with all of you as we have worked together before. I know it will be highly productive, highly important and very useful and very helpful to the lives of each Filipino and for the betterment of the Philippines,” Marcos said.
