CEBU CITY – Give Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. a fair trial in the string of disqualification cases filed against him.
This was the appeal of Marcos’ supporters here who held a protest rally on Thursday, Nov. 18.
About 150 supporters gathered at the Plaza Independencia then marched to the office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Cebu City North District office where they held a candle lighting.
“We are appealing to the Comelec to give Marcos a fair trial. We are praying for a fair and impartial decision” said Chito Aragon, one of the lead conveners of “Hugpong Para Kay Bongbong.”
Aragon said the group is also hoping for a speedy resolution of the cases that seek to disqualify Marcos in the presidential race.
At least three petitions have been filed against Marcos. The petitioners claimed that Marcos is not eligible to run for any public office after the Quezon City Regional Trial Court convicted him in 1995 for his failure to file income tax returns.
Despite the petitions filed against Marcos, Aragon said the former Senator’s supporters in Cebu are still in high spirits and will continue to push for the late dictator’s son candidacy.
“We are not discouraged. We have thousands of members here who are closely monitoring the situation in Manila,” said Aragon.
