THE One Cebu party, headed by Cebu City Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, yesterday endorsed the presidential bid of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
The party endorsed Marcos’ running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, in February.
Cebu is the most vote-rich province in the country with more than 3.2 million registered voters for the May 9 elections.
One Cebu and the UniTeam alliance of Marcos and Duterte-Carpio yesterday entered into an alliance — “One Cebu UniTeam.” The agreement was signed by Garcia, Marcos representing the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, and Duterte-Carpio representing the Lakas-CMD and Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
One Cebu, in a statement, said the decision to endorse Marcos underwent weeks of “extensive” consultations with provincial, municipal and barangay leaders in the 44 municipalities and seven cities (including Mandaue City) of Cebu province.
One Cebu said Marcos’ experienced leadership as a former governor of Ilocos Norte, as a congressman and later as a senator, as well as his and the UniTeam’s message of hope, healing, unity, and patriotism, and commitment to continue the country’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and high fuel and consumer prices also contributed to decision to support him.
Prior to the One Cebu endorsement, the Confederation of Ilocano Associations Inc. (Samahang Ilocano) also expressed support for Marcos and Duterte-Carpio.
Samahang Ilocano’s Thomas Torralba said they believe Marcos has the ability, talent and genuine desire and sincerity to lead the country.
