TACLOBAN CITY — Before flying back to Manila today, Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos together with Mayor Alfred Romualdez and Dr. Alberto de Leon signed a memorandum of agreement for a P1 million medical assistance to patients who would be admitted at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC).
De Leon, chief of hospital of the EVRMC, told Leyte Samar Daily Express that the P1 million fund came from Senator Marcos’ office aimed at helping the indigent patients confined at the said hospital.
De Leon clarified that the medical assistance fund would cater to all patients coming from the whole of region, stressing further that the recommendation for assistance will come from the City Mayor’s office. But De Leon pointed out that this is going to be a two -way process. “ While patients are advised to seek recommendation from Mayor Romualdez’ office, we at the EVRMC could also recommend to the mayor’s office for patients whom we would find to be indigent or qualified.”
Senator Marcos assured the chief of EVRMC of an immediate replenishment of the funds once consumed, said De Leon.
Marcos came to Tacloban to personally extend relief assistance to families in the barangays who were heavily affected by the latest flooding and landslides that resulted for Mayor Romualdez to place the city under a state of calamity.
Marcos together with his cousins Rep.Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Mayor Romualdez gave relief goods in Brgy. 3 that was seriously devastated by landslide rendering at least 70 families homeless, and other barangays of the city hit by the calamity.
As a senator whose roots came from this place, Marcos was the guest speaker during the graduation rites of the Eastern Visayas University (EVSU) on March 29 held at the full packed Tacloban City Convention Center or Astrodome.
