Presidential frontrunner Bongbong Marcos and running mate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Thursday secured the endorsement of Governor Herminaldo “Dodo” Mandanas and Vice Governor Mark Leviste during a campaign sortie in the town of Balayan.

Balayan has 57,168 out of the 1,819,071 registered voters in the province. The Bongbong-Sara team was accompanied by Balayan Mayor JR Fronda, Batangas Rep. Eileen Ermita-Buhain and Calatagan Mayor Peter Oliver Palacio, among others.

In rousing people to support them, Bongbong focused on his “unity movement,” on improving Internet connectivity and on lowering the prices of electricity on the country.

Meanwhile, Sara called on Filipinos to unite and rise above the challenges brought by Covid-19 pandemic and in addressing poverty in the country.

“We will not be beaten by this pandemic; we will not be vanquished by poverty,” she said in Filipino.

Sara said that the next administration must bring back the jobs that Filipinos lost because of the pandemic. Likewise, she said the focus must also be on education and in ensuring a peaceful existence for all Filipinos. She asked the crowd to support the entire UniTeam ticket in advancing inclusive development for the people.

Apart from campaigning for the entire UniTeam, Sara thanked the Batangueños for supporting her father, Rodrigo Duterte in his presidential campaign in 2016.

“In 2016, my father won for president here in the province of Batangas, the number one ‘barako’ (alpha male) in Davao City,” she said. “Our family thanks you.”

The President’s daughter promised to generate jobs to help Filipinos, who got displaced due to the Covid-19 crisis. She also opposed the reimposition of stricter forms of lockdowns, which negatively impact businesses.

Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto and his wife House Deputy Speaker Vilma Santos, powerful political figures in Batangas and leaders of the One Batangas party, have endorsed Manila Mayor Isko Moreno for president.
