Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 17) — The Commission on Elections second division has denied a petition to cancel the candidacy of presidential aspirant Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Theodore Te, who serves as lead counsel for the group group of civic leaders led by priest Christian Buenafe, shared the decision.

"The Second Division ruled that there was no ground to cancel Marcos Jr.’s COC on the ground of material misrepresentation," Te relayed.

He said they will file a motion for reconsideration with the Comelec en banc.

The petitioners argued that Marcos committed a crime of moral turpitude and perjury for making false representations in his certificate of candidacy on his eligibility to seek the presidency despite his tax conviction.

This is a developing story.
