Ilocos Norte representative and senatorial candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. felt right at home down south.
The youthful solon received a warm welcome from the people of Leyte and Samar provinces during his three-day visit in the area.
There’s no surprise there as Marcos traced his roots in the region. His mother, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez-Marcos, was crowned the “Rose of Tacloban” in 1947 and later became “Miss Leyte.”
Marcos is poised to become the first Waray to win a seat in the Senate since Calbayog City’s Decoroso Rosales in 1955.
“Maybe 55 is the magic number,” joked Marcos. “It’s been 55 years since the last time a Waray became a senator.”
